For spring break this year, I went on a service trip to Native American reservations in northern Minnesota. It was more of a cultural learning trip for ourselves than anything, as many of us had little idea about the issues that the Native people face, health-related and otherwise.
These shots are from a small museum in Fond du Lac. The curator (unsure if this is the right word/title to use) gifted us all with books on canoe making.
Model of the Fond du Lac school. Apparently built in the shape of a turtle, based on the Native American legend that the world was built on a turtle’s back.
The Tribal Council building at White Earth was incredibly gorgeous. It houses all the departments of the reservation and the lower level has several glass cases showcasing Native art and other artifacts.
